Project Half Calf Everyone The State of AKFairs

The State of AKFairs

This episode’s “first” was a road trip.

Auntie Phu Xuan and Uncle Aaron are still in town so this time we took Half Calf on an hour drive north to the Alaska State Fair. It is the first time we have actually left Anchorage with him. He slept for pretty much the entire drive so that is certainly easier. Momma and Daddy went to the Fair a few years ago and I still remember that Momma was the size of the World Record Green Cabbage!!! There was no cabbage that big this time but there were still other impressively large vegetables.

Flashback to 2012

Other highlights were a tractor pull using actual tractors. It was antique tractors pulling a normal tractor pull sled, not the crazy souped up machines I remember from my youth. There were cows and sheep and goats and even baby chickens you could pet! Oh and dinosaurs; they have a dinosaur exhibit complete with animatronic dinosaurs of some local ones. Plus the most awesome game ever, Rat Roulette. Basically a spinning wheel with colored holes and they drop a mouse in the middle. You place your bets on what color the mouse will run into.

As for Half Calf, we did just fine with what was also his first “big crowd” event. He just rode along in the carrier, mostly oblivious to the world. We better enjoy these times while we can since they won’t last much longer!

Sorry this post is short, we had a busy week with the guests and I will honest, I am not in full time blogging mode yet since we just started doing this so I generally am taking way too long to actually sit down and write these so end up rushing through the actual posts. For the sake of us all, let’s all hope I get better as time passes.
